Android 14 OTA Coming!Blackview Foldable Phone HERO 10 Set to Apply Google OTA Update to the Latest Android 14 with Refreshed Dynamic Live View and Cover Screen

July 13th, 2024

HERO 10 with Android 13-based Doke OS 4.0 onboard is the first foldable phone by the innovation-driven tech brand Blackview, having just received its global debut in late May. So far, the device has been getting a positive response, and to enhance the positivity, the device is set to receive a new Google OTA update to the latest Android 14. The arrival of Android 14 is not just a software update, but signifies Blackview’s commitment to supporting three-year Android version updates, from Android 14 to 16, and providing users with the latest software experience across its device portfolio.

As expected, the forthcoming Google OTA Android 14 OS upgrade for HERO 10 will introduce a host of new features to elevate efficiency, personalization, privacy, and security to new heights. Meanwhile, the update of Doke OS 4.0 will significantly improve both software and hardware performance, including enhancements to the main and cover screens, notably in effortless cover screen access and an enhanced Dynamic Live View. These cumulative improvements aim to address existing user concerns and further refine the user experience, making the OTA update a true advancement over the current version.

1.  What’s New with HERO 10 Android 14 Update?
--Efficiency Upgrade, Personalization Upgrade, Privacy Upgrade, and Security Upgrade

With the latest Android 14 software update, HERO 10 will undergo significant improvements that enhance user experience in several key areas. It will introduce smoother transitions between apps and a more responsive interface, while also elevating efficiency, personalization, privacy, and security to new heights.

No.1 Android 14 Efficiency Upgrade

The latest Android 14 prioritizes productivity, so HERO 10 with a new operating system will introduce an all-new copy-paste way, automatic mobile data switching between dual SIM cards, automatic QR Code zoom, and auto-confirm when using PIN, allowing users to work more efficiently.

--All-new Efficient Copy-Paste Way
HERO 10 with upgraded Android 14 makes it easier for users to copy or paste texts, photos, or even videos. Users can press and hold on the content they wish to copy, then switch to another app with the other hand and paste what they have copied before wherever they prefer.

--Automatic Mobile Data Switching Between Dual SIM Cards
One of the notable added features is that the latest Android 14 system will automatically switch mobile data usage to the second SIM card when the primary SIM card does not have a good network signal. This saves users’ time and helps them use their devices more smoothly without manual activation.

--Automatic QR Code Zoom
It integrates camera zoom functionality for scanning QR codes at varying distances and lighting conditions, with high accuracy in low-light and complex environments.

--Auto-confirm Unlock When Using PIN
In Android 13, users have to press “Enter” when it comes to setting a PIN to unlock their phone. Now with Android 14, their phones can auto-unlock after they enter the correct PIN. It is, however, worth noting that this feature is exclusive to a six-digit passcode.

No.2 Android 14 Personalization Upgrade

If users want to make their HERO 10 truly their own, then the device with Android 14 is worth their try because it offers separate ring and notification volumes, upgraded magnification, and more. Users can tailor their devices to better suit their needs.

--Separate Ring and Notification Volumes
Users may miss important pops at work because of the combined volume setting for notification and ringtone volumes. Thanks to the Android 14 update, users now can adjust a specific volume for each according to their needs and scenarios. This means if they want their phone to ring quietly and notifications won’t be affected.

-- Upgraded Magnification
Unlike this feature in the previous Android system, it has been improved, allowing for targeted magnification without losing the context of the surrounding content and offering a range of zoom levels to accommodate different visual needs. Users can magnify the full screen, or part of the screen, or seamlessly switch between the full or partial screen.

No.3 Android 14 Privacy Upgrade

Privacy is a key focus of the new operating system enhancements. HERO 10 will include additional features aimed at safeguarding user privacy, such as selective photo and video access, AI-generated virtual backgrounds for Google Meet, and Health Connect.

--Selected Photo and Video Access
Now, instead of granting apps access to the entire photo library, users can select specific photos that the app can use. This is a great privacy feature since it ensures that the apps can only see the images and videos users want them to, and reduce the risk of data misuse.

--AI-generated Virtual Backgrounds for Google Meet
By using AI to create realistic and dynamic backgrounds during video calls, it enhances privacy by allowing users to replace their actual surroundings with more suitable or aesthetically pleasing virtual environments.

--Health Connect for More Control Over Health and Data
Previously, users had to install the Health Connect app from the Google Play Store. On Android 14, it is part of the Android Framework. That is, it is now built into the Android 14 settings as a central way to store all user’s health data in one place and stay in control of their privacy.

No.4 Android 14 Security Upgrade

As mentioned before, the update also brings new security features, ensuring safer browsing and protecting user data. With enhanced PIN code protection and Google Password Manager, users can have peace of mind knowing their data, passwords, and devices are safe.

--Enhanced PIN Code Protection
This security feature requires more complex PINs, such as increasing minimum length requirements or mandating the inclusion of numbers, letters, and special characters to enhance security. It restricts the number of PIN entry attempts before locking the device or requiring alternative authentication methods against theft or compromise.

--Google Password Manager
It provides a centralized method for managing and safeguarding user account passwords, By helping users generate and store passwords securely, and automatically fill login forms, it simplifies the login process and enhances account security.

2. What’s New with HERO 10 DokeOS 4.0 Update?

—Effortless Access to the Cover Screen, and Refreshed Dynamic Live View on the Main Screen
Thanks to the DokeOS 4.0 update, it’s reported that both the main screen and cover screen will change a lot to fix some existing inconveniences caused by the old OS. Users no longer have to unlock the back screen every time using face unlock or fingerprint recognition. Dynamic Live View is also renewed with added features, more lively animations, and more to enhance the overall performance.

No.1 DokeOS 4.0 Upgrade for Speedy Access to the Cover Screen

With the new software update, the performance of HERO 10’s cover screen is optimized. Users now don't have to unlock it using face unlock or side fingerprint recognition. Instead, it can automatically unlock as long as the back screen lights up. Besides, it also gets a renewed design, featuring a colorful and vivid background by default.

No.2 DokeOS 4.0 Upgrade for Refreshed Dynamic Live View

The DokeOS 4.0 update enhances the Dynamic Live View on the main screen. Alongside improvements in animation quality and transitions, Blackview has introduced new features such as screen recording and flashlight to make better use of the center-placed pill shape cutout as an interactive mini taskbar for notifications, alerts, and real-time activities. Notably, screenshots will not capture the new Dynamic Live View feature.

-- Clearer Interface with Sub-options
In Android 13, Dynamic Live View is at the bottom of the auxiliary function page with no sub-options, leaving users unclear about what functionalities are displayed on the Island. With the update, this feature is placed at the top of the auxiliary function interface and renamed “Live Window” for better literal understanding. Plus, now when clicked, it shows sub-options, allowing users to select their preferred features to display in a pill-shaped icon on the status bar.

-- Two More New Features
Features that Dynamic Live View boasts on Android 13 are relatively limited, users can only manage phone calls, music, battery level, clock, and sound recorder. Based on these, Dynamic Island in Android 14 introduces two new ones: screen recording and flashlight. This expansion enables users to have swift access to more frequently used tools in their daily lives without leaving the current page or app, thus enhancing multitasking and user convenience.

-- Larger Display Area for Better Visibility
From Android 13 to Android 14, Dynamic Live View has expanded from covering about half of the screen’s top center to spanning the entire top of the screen or occupying a larger area, which not only improves the visibility of notifications during driving or in meetings but also contributes to a more modern and sleek appearance of the user interface.

-- Quicker Access to the Corresponding Apps
Unlike Dynamic Live View in Android 13, which requires a single click to zoom in and a double click to switch to corresponding applications, Android 14 simplifies this by allowing users to enter applications with just a single tap to the application if there is one. However, a long press can make the pill-shaped icon zoom in. Because of these direct changes, interaction is streamlined and time is saved.

-- More Modern and Sleek Visual Appeal
The aesthetic elements of the UI, such as colors, icons, and fonts, will also be updated to align with the new Dynamic Live View in Android 14, enhancing the overall look and feel.

In  mid to late July, this software update will first be rolled out in regions outside the European Union and Russia, followed by the European Union, and finally in Russia. Users in these areas are encouraged to stay tuned for the update schedule to receive the OTA Android 14 update promptly and enjoy its new features.
